Mean of discrete time signal $x(n)$ = $0$ 
Variance of $d(n)$ is ${\sigma_d}^2$ = ${\sigma_x}^2/5$ 

Mean of discrete time signal $d(n)$ is $$E[d(n)]=E[x(n)-x(n-1)]$$ $$=E[x(n)]-E[x(n-1)]$$ $$=0-0$$ $$E[d(n)]=0$$

Rephrasing the definition of scalar

Vector calculus படிக்கும் போது நம்மில் பலருக்கும் எழும் சந்தேகம்.



Electric currentக்கு direction இருக்கிறது, ஆனால் அது scalar எனப்படுகிறதே. ஏன்??

  • ஒருவரின் weight என்னவென்று கேட்டால் $70$kg என்று scalarல் பதிலளிக்கிறோம். ஆனால் physics bookஐ புரட்டிப் பார்த்தால் weight is a vector quantity!!!
  • Area, length போன்ற quantities எல்லாம் சில இடங்களில் scalar ஆகவும் சில இடங்களில் vector ஆகவும் வரையறுக்கப்படுகிறதே ஏன்??'

இது போன்ற பல சந்தேகங்களுக்கு இந்தப் பகுதியில் விடை காண முயல்வோம்.


🌾Magnitude
Magnitude (எண்ணளவு) என்பது ஒரு quantityயின் அளவைச் சொல்ல பயன்படுவது.
Magnitudeஐ சொல்ல நமக்கு ஒரு number (eg: 10, 20, etc) தேவைப்படுகிறது. கூடவே அந்த எண் எதைக் குறிக்கிறது என்பதை தெளிவுபடுத்த அந்த quantityக்கான unit தேவைப்படுகிறது (eg: metre, celsius, seconds, etc)

"Temperature = $300 \; kelvin$"

🌾Direction:
ஒரு பொருள் எவ்வாறு நகர்கிறது என்பதை வைத்து நடைமுறையில் நாம் பயன்படுத்தும் சில திசைகள் பின்வருமாறு,

"Forward - Reverse"
"Up - Down"
"East - West - North - South"


👉Quantities with only ONE possible direction: 
Example 1:        
                வெளியே விளையாடிக் கொண்டு இருக்கும் போது, நண்பன் ஒருவன் திடீரென,

"டேய் வானத்த பாருடா, இருட்டிக்கிட்டு வருது"


என்று சொன்னால் நாம் வானம் எங்கே இருக்கிறது என்று தேடப் போவதில்லை. மாறாக நாம் உடனே மேலே தான் பார்க்கப் போகிறோம்.

Look at the sky என்று சொன்னாலே போதும், Look up at the sky  என்று direction உடன் சேர்த்து சொல்ல வேண்டிய அவசியமில்லை.

Example 2:
               நீங்கள் வசிக்கும் தெருவில் post office இருக்கிறது என வைத்துக் கொள்வோம்.

இப்படி அடிக்கடி எல்லோரும் உங்களிடமே address கேட்கிறார்கள் என்கிற கடுப்பில் ஒரு board வைக்கிறீர்கள்.

மேலே இருக்கிற boardஐ பாருங்கள். 

Question: 
இந்த boardல் post office $10$ blocksக்கு பக்கத்தில் ஒரு arrow mark இருக்கே. அது தேவையா??

ஒரே தெரு, straight road, $10$ blocksனு மட்டும் எழுதி இருந்தா நமக்கு புரியுமா புரியாதா??

இங்கே direction mention பண்ண வேண்டிய அவசியம் இருக்கிறதா என்றால், இல்லை!!! 

 Real life example:
மேலே இருக்கும் மைல்கல்லைப் பாருங்கள். ரெட்டணை $3$ என்றால் என்ன அர்த்தம்?. நீங்கள் போகும் திசையிலேயே, முன்னோக்கி $3\;km$ சென்றால் ரெட்டணை கிராமம் வரும்.
இங்கே arrow mark போட்டு திசை காட்ட வேண்டிய அவசியம் இல்லை. 

இதிலிருந்து நாம் தெரிந்துக் கொள்வது,
ஒரே ஒரு direction மட்டுமே உள்ள quantitiesக்கு அதன் direction represent செய்ய வேண்டிய அவசியம் இல்லை. 

Direction இருந்தாலும் அதை represent செய்ய வேண்டிய அவசியம் இல்லாமல் போவதால், இந்த வகை quantitiesஐ நாம் scalar என்றே குறிப்பிடலாம்.

Of course, we can understand it right?

Board இருக்கும் இடத்தில் இருந்து forward directionல $10$ வீடு தள்ளிப் போனால் post office, reverse directionல் $5$ வீடு தள்ளிப் போனால் EB office.

இங்கே இருக்கும் கேள்வி என்னவென்றால், இரண்டு direction மட்டுமே கொண்டுள்ள ஒரு quantityஐ represent செய்ய direction தேவைப்படுகிறதா? அல்லது magnitude மட்டுமே வைத்து வேறுபடுத்திக் காட்டிவிட முடியுமா??

Magnitudeல் இருக்கும் positive and negative sign ($+$ $-$) வைத்தே அது forward direction or reverse direction என்று கூறிவிட முடியும்.

"+10 = 10 magnitude in forward direction"
"-5 = 5 magnitude in reverse direction"

Magnitudeல் இருக்கும் positive and negative sign வைத்தே, இரு வேறு திசைகளை நாம் வேறுபடுத்திக் காட்டிவிட முடியும் எனும் போது, அங்கே தனியாக direction என்று ஒன்றை represent செய்ய வேண்டிய அவசியம் இல்லாமல் போகிறது. 

எனவே quantities with two possible (opposite) directions = scalar.


Scalar vs Vector topicல், scalar = magnitude only, no direction என்று படித்தோம். தற்போது scalarக்கான definition கொஞ்சம் தெளிவுபடுத்தப்பட்டு இருக்கிறது.

ஒரு quantityக்கு direction இல்லையென்றால் அது scalar, also ஒரு quantityக்கு direction இருந்தாலும் அதை நாம் represent செய்ய வேண்டிய அவசியம் இல்லாமல் போவதாலும், அது scalar என வரையறுக்கப்படுகிறது.

எனவே quantities with no direction, one direction or two opposite directions அனைத்தையும் நாம் scalar எனக் குறிப்பிடலாம்.

ஒரு quantityக்கு direction இல்லையென்றால் அது scalar, also ஒரு quantityக்கு direction இருந்தாலும் அதை நாம் represent செய்ய வேண்டிய அவசியம் இல்லாமல் போவதாலும், அது scalar என வரையறுக்கப்படுகிறது.

 அதுக்கு அவன், "👨490 Sir " என சொல்கிறான்...

👉பத்தாவது மதிப்பெண் என்ன? என்கிற கேள்விக்கு, 490 என்கிற எண்ணே போதுமான பதிலாக இருக்கிறது.

இது போன்ற சில கணியங்களை (Quantity) குறிக்க எண்ணளவை (magnitude) மட்டுமே போதுமானதாக இருக்கிறது. இவற்றை நாம் Scalar என்கிறோம்.

Definition:

A Scalar is a quantity that is determined by its magnitude only.

எண்ணளவை மட்டுமே கொண்டு தீர்மானிக்கப்படும் ஒரு கணியம் திசையிலி ஆகும்.

 இப்போ, Class leaderஐ எழுப்பி, "👳தம்பி, Staff room போய்ட்டு ஒரு chalk piece கொண்டு வாப்பா" என்று சொல்கிறேன்.

👉 இந்த Scenarioவில்... வெறும் 10 அடி என்கிற information.. இடத்தை சென்றடைய போதுமானதாக இல்லை. கூடவே எந்தப் பக்கம் போக வேண்டும் என்கிற information ஐயும் சேர்த்து சொல்ல வேண்டும்.

இது போன்ற சில கணியங்களை (Quantities) நாம் வெறும் எண்ணளவை (Magnitude) கொண்டு மட்டுமே குறிப்பிட முடியாது, உடன் திசையையும் (direction) சேர்த்து குறிப்பிட வேண்டும். இந்த வகை கணியங்களை (Quantities) நாம் வெக்டர் (Vector) என்கிறோம்.

TRB ECE 2021- Q6

Consider a continuous time signal $x(t)$ that has been pre-filtered by a low-pass filter with a cut-off frequency of $10$kHz. The spectrum of $x(t)$ is estimated by use of the N-point DFT. The desired frequency resolution is $0.1$ Hz. Determine the required value of 'N' and the necessary data length $T_L$.

a) $N\;=\;2^6$, $T_L\;=\;14.33\;s$

b) $N\;=\;2^{18}$, $T_L\;=\;13.1072\;s$

  • In a sampling circuit, the sampler has fixed sampling frequency $F_s$. To avoid aliasing we include a pre-alias filter before the sampler to limit the incoming signal frequency within $\frac{F_s}{2}$. Here the signal $x(t)$ is filtered by a pre-alias filter of cut-off frequency $10$ kHz, hence maximum signal frequency is, $$f_{max}\;=\;10\;kHz$$ 
  • The minimum sampling frequency will be $$F_{s}\;=\;20000\; samples/sec$$
  • To process these in DSP processor, we need finite time-domain and frequency domain samples. Hence we sample the spectrum to obtain 'N' samples in $2\pi$ or $F_s$ period. So, the frequency resolution $$\triangle f\;=\;\frac{2\pi}{N}$$ or $$\triangle f\;=\;\frac{F_s}{N}$$
  • The number of frequency samples will be $$N\;=\;\frac{F_s}{\triangle f}$$ $$=\frac{20000}{0.1}$$ $$N\;=\;2×10^5$$
  • To find these frequency samples from time samples, we use N-point DFT. This 'N' value has to be greater than $2×10^5$. Among the options $2^{18}$ is the only 'N' value which is greater than $2×10^5$

என்ற அழுகையுடன் குழந்தை பிறக்கிறது...

அப்படியே கட் பண்ணி... ரெண்டு வருஷம் கழிச்சி பாத்தா... அம்மா ABCD சொல்லி கொடுத்துட்டு இருப்பாங்க... அப்பா one... two... three... சொல்லி கோடுத்துட்டு இருப்பாரு... 


அன்றைக்கு ஆரம்பித்து இன்று வரை நாம் கற்றுக் கொள்ளும் எண்கள் (numerals)

"0, 1, 2, 3, 4..." 

 "௧ ௨ ௩ ௪ ௫ ௬..." 

"I, II, III, IV, V, VI,.." 


இப்படி எத்தனை வகையான எண்களை படித்தாலும்... Decimal number system என்பது ஒரு பொதுப்பெயர் (generic term). இங்கே இந்த பத்து எண்களை $(0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)$ அடிப்படையாகக் (base) கொண்ட அனைத்து எண்களுமே decimal numbers தான். அது positive number ஆக இருக்கலாம், negative number ஆக இருக்கலாம் அல்லது decimal point number ஆகக் கூட இருக்கலாம். எனவே மேலே காட்டப்பட்டுள்ள மூன்றுமே decimal numbers தான். அதில் தெளிவு வேண்டும்.



Machineகளை பொறுத்த வரைக்கும், அதற்கு தெரிந்தது இரண்டு தான்.

Correct Answer: Option B

Solution:
As soon as we saw $Z_{in}$ for $\lambda/4$ transmission line, we tempt to use the formula,
$$Z_{in}=Z_0^2/Z_L$$ $$Z_{in}=50^2/\infty$$ $$Z_{in}=0\;\Omega$$

Hence, we choose the option A.

But the above formula is for lossless $\lambda/4$ transmission line. 
In our question, they have asked for very lossy transmission line.

How to approach this question?

Case 1: Lossless transmission line matched with $Z_0$

Since the transmission line is matched, there will be no standing wave and hence $Z_{in}$ will be equal to $Z_0$.


Case 2: Lossless transmission line not matched with $Z_0$

Since the transmission line is not matched, there will be reflections at the load and hence standing wave exists. Whenever standing wave is there, the impedance of the transmission line will vary in accordance voltage and current at that point.


Case 3: Very lossy transmission line not matched with $Z_0$

Since the transmission line is not matched, there will be reflections at the load and hence standing wave exists. But here, standing wave gets attenuated since the transmission line is very lossy. There will be no standing wave at input side. Hence input impedance is equal to characteristic impedance $Z_0$.



Hence the answer is Option B
